Our History
Excellence has been a goal and hallmark of Catholic Schools since their inception. St. Mel School was founded in 1959 by the Sisters of Mercy from Doon, Ireland. Their tradition, educating the ‘whole child’ and ‘service to others’, continues to this very day! St. Mel School takes pride in remaining in the forefront of Catholic education, even in a pandemic. Because of long-range planning we have top-notch academic programs, technology, and the infrastructure to support differentiated learning and maintain the health and safety of our students and staff. Our goal is to continue to aggressively meet the needs of our students now, and be visionary in identifying and meeting the future needs of students and their families.
The Challenges and the Need
With the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, St. Mel School still needs to achieve its annual Fundraising goal of $135,000, in order to finance the operation of St. Mel School and maintain existing reduced tuition costs for our families. These expenses are primarily offset by our annual Benefit Auction revenue.
With this in mind, St. Mel’s Administration, with the input from the Parent Club and Auction Chairperson, determined that the ability to have a virtual or in-person Auction event to generate the full amount of funds required, is not possible during the current school year. Although, there are still plans to hold a reduced scale online Auction in Spring 2021.
To preserve the critical revenue generated by the Auction, St. Mel Parent Club has created a 2020-2021 Stewardship Campaign to contribute toward these necessary funds.
Stewardship Campaign Goals
- Allow school families, extended families, parishioners and alumni to augment fundraising efforts, which reduce tuition costs by approximately $1500 for parishioner families and $900 for non-parishioner families
- An average amount of $350 donated per St. Mel School family would represent approximately $60,000 of the $100,000 net income typically generated by the Auction
Stewardship Campaign Timeline & Options
- Begins 11/8/2020, and ends 2/6/2021
- Donations made are eligible for a tax-donation (consult your tax-advisor)
- Levels of giving start at $10 per month, through the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year (recurring up to 6 months)
- Donations can also be a one-time donation, with no maximum limit
- Employer matching is encouraged
